Are you looking for a challenge? A chance to see your hard work rewarded? Become a Southern Platte Fire Protection District
volunteer firefighter.
Each year, we recruit and train a class of probational firefighters (we call them "probies"). Academy
training requires approximately eight hours per week for about six months. Training exceeds state
standards, and academy graduates have the equivalent of a Missouri Firefighter I certification. Upon
graduation, probies become operational firefighters, working alongside other volunteer and career
personnel.
As a volunteer firefighter, you're only required to serve 12 hours per month of duty time and six hours
training time. Duty time can be scheduled 24 hours a day, and training occurs every Monday and on
weekends. Because of the scope of required firefighting knowledge and the complexity of our emergency
operations, you're encouraged to participate more often.
A current Emergency Medical Technician certificate is encouraged, but not required.
For more information about becoming a volunteer, call 741-2900.
