MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
September 29, 2004

The meeting of the Board of Directors of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at Station Four, 8795 NW N Highway, Kansas City, Mo.

Nelson Hopper, acting as Chairman, called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Gary Judd, Michael Newburger, and Nelson Hopper. Also present were Fire Chief Richard Carrizzo, Diana Youngdahl, and Randy Boatman.

Chief Carrizzo advised of one additional item regarding an incident response that needs to be added to the agenda.

Minutes of the September 15, 2004, meeting that had been previously e-mailed to the Directors were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed unanimously.

The following Old Business was brought before the meeting:

    1. Investment Issues: Vice President Diana Youngdahl, UMB, and Randy Boatman discussed the different opportunities for investing the present funds that are being serviced at UMB, the District’s bank.

    Laddering out the money for all of the accounts was discussed.

    Motion was made to change the investment procedures for the bond, CIP, and general operating accounts as advised and recommended by UMB and have Chief Carrizzo be the District’s contact person for anything UMB may need assistance with. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

The following New Business was brought to the meeting:
    1. District Manning Report

    Chief Carrizzo advised of the process with the hiring process and requested that the District increase the 2004 manning by up to 3 personnel starting after November 1. He explained the organization chart and the financial implications.

    Motion was made to increase the 2004 manning by up to three firefighters, which would reduce the total to be hired in 2005 by three, after November 1, 2004. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

    2. Incident Response

    Chief Carrizzo advised of a response to an incident that occurred on Monday. Division Chief Fiser had been in contact with an upset customer. An internal investigation was conducted and has been placed on hold until further notice. At this point the investigation has found no wrong-doing by any personnel in the organization.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
