COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT July 21, 2004 The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Station Four, 8795 NW N Highway, Kansas City, Mo. Nelson Hopper, acting as Chairman, called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Gary Judd, Michael Newburger, and Nelson Hopper. Also present was Fire Chief Richard Carrizzo. Minutes of the June 9, 2004, meeting that had been previously e-mailed to the Directors were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed unanimously. The Treasurer’s report, prepared by Adrienne Renton, for the month of June was passed out at the meeting. After review, the Treasurer’s report as presented was accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed unanimously. The following Old Business was brought before the meeting:
The Board set the Tax Hearing for August 23, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. at Station Four. Attorney Greene will handle the legal notices. 2. Apparatus Update: Chief Carrizzo reported the following:
9601: Four-door utility, a DMV title search is being conducted. An update was given regarding the corrosion problems to both Quantum’s (0001 and 0002). Pierce is going to pay to have the work done at a local shop. The District is collecting bids for the job, and then Pierce will make the determination which shop will be painting the trucks. 0001 had an air conditioning problem that was corrected. 0002 had a spring break and is in being repaired.
Chief Carrizzo reported: a. Thank you notes were read:
ii. Central Jackson County FPD – Division Chief John Callahan’s assisting with promotion process. c. Joint water rescue training with Olathe Fire will be conducted in late August at English Landing Park. Lenexa has also scheduled a joint training with Southern Platte for water rescue on the Platte River. d. Two FF injuries occurred last month that required worker’s compensation time off. Both have been released for full duty. e. Only one volunteer firefighter showed up to assist with July 4th activities. f. Three volunteers were terminated for lack of participation. g. Station One had a single roof problem that was corrected for $500. Division Chief Bill Fiser will contact Bob DeGeorge for compensation. h. Chief Carrizzo received notice of his renewal for Chief Fire Officer Designation. i. Chief Carrizzo discussed the possibilities of abolishing the Fireworks Ordinance and the liability the District is under with no support from the County, Law Enforcement, or Cities. Motion was made to accept the Chief’s Report, seconded, and passed unanimously. Motion was made to authorize Chief Carrizzo to sell Apparatus 8102 (Old E-One), seconded, and passed unanimously. 2. Union Report: The Partnership Committee had not met and was waiting for the Business Agent to follow up with some items that needed clarification. The meeting was moved to the bay area and Apparatus 0402 was looked at. There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 11:37 a.m. Respectively submitted,
