COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT June 18, 2003 The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Station Four, 8795 NW N Highway, Kansas City, Mo. Nelson Hopper acted as Chairman of the meeting and called it to order at 9:05 a.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Hopper, Judd, and Newburger. Also present was Chief Richard Carrizzo. Minutes of the May 21, 2003, meeting that had been previously e-mailed to the Directors were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed. Treasurer's reports were handed out, prepared by Treasurer Connie Thomas, for the month of May. Chief Carrizzo asked about bidding the banking system back out. After discussion, no action has taken. Treasurer's Report as presented for May was accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed. The 2002 Annual Audit was presented to the Board. The 2002 Audit was accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed. The following Old Business was brought before the meeting: 1. Legal Issues: Nothing to update regarding the Division of Labor regarding prevailing wages during the construction of the training tower. A contract was presented to the Board by Chief Carrizzo regarding retaining Platte County Communication Center for dispatch services. A motion was made to enter into the Platte County Sheriff's Department dispatching contract, as presented. The motion was seconded, and passed. 2. Apparatus update: Chief Carrizzo reported all apparatus in service. Apparatus 9603 is out of service to have oxidation removed and to be repainted along the sides of the unit. After the project was started it was determined that more oxidation was present. All of the oxidation is being corrected. Apparatus 9901 (Ladder Truck) had its bucket fixed to correct a balancing problem. Apparatus 0001 and 0002 are having oxidation problems. Pierce Manufacturing is being contacted to have the issue addressed under warranty. The new Suburban has had numerous transmission problems occur over the last month. The dealership has been correcting the problem each time. 3. Training Tower: Four Star and WHP Towers are still looking at different options for the first floor drainage problems. A thank you card was read from an accident victim that was responded to on May 17 at 45 Highway and Union Chapel Road. Certifications earned in May:

Tinsley: Hazardous Material Technician FF Askren: Hazardous Material Technician FF Bradley: Hazardous Material Technician FF McCammon: Hazardous Material Technician FF Peoples: Hazardous Material Technician FF Pool: Hazardous Material Technician The structured interview for the new applicants in the hiring process was held in May. There were 20 scheduled for interviews, of which 12 passed. The Division Chief interviews occurred a week later and 8 passed. Two were for the position of volunteer. Chief Carrizzo reported on Station Three's lawn care and fixing of the sprinkler system. Chief Carrizzo reported that we did not receive the grant for the Gator. Chief Carrizzo reported on the dual KCFD/SPFPD training on the aircraft simulator by all of the shifts. The Board accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed the Chief's Report.
