MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
December 18, 2002

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at Station Four, 8795 NW N Highway, Kansas City, Mo.

Nelson Hopper acted as Chairman of the meeting and called it to order at 9:02 a.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Hopper, Newburger, and Judd. Also present was Chief Richard Carrizzo.

Minutes of the November 20, 2002, meeting that had been previously e-mailed to the Directors were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed.

There was no Treasurer's report presented.

The following Old Business was brought before the meeting:

1. Legal Issues: Chief Carrizzo advised that Attorney Greene had worked on the Water District #1 contract for the District and was asked to work on a "Release of Liability" form for the training tower.

2. Apparatus update: All apparatus was reported in service by Chief Carrizzo with the exception of P23, which had incurred turbo and air filter damage due to hot embers being taken into the air filter system at the residence fire this past Sunday. The proper forms are being submitted to VFIS for payment.

All hose and apparatus pumping tests were completed with 300 feet of hose failing. The pumps passed with minor packing adjustments.

3. Department Values/Strategic Plan: The department meeting is scheduled for January 4, 2003.

4. Training Tower: Chief Carrizzo reported that the tower is waiting for the "burn-in" prior to operating the burn rooms.

5. Worker's Compensation Insurance: Chief Carrizzo presented the three bids for Worker's Compensations. A discussion was held between the Board and Chief. Motion was made to accept the MOFAD bid and change our provider to Missouri Fire and Ambulance District's Insurance Trust. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Chief Carrizzo would work on making the change.

The following New Business was brought to the meeting:

1. Chief's Report:

  • Chief Carrizzo reported the following certifications during November: FF Mabe - LP Gas Emergencies and Haz Mat Operations; FF Cull - Fire Officer I
  • Chief Carrizzo read a thank-you card from Adrienne Renton.
  • A pre-construction meeting was held with Papa Franks regarding the expansion of the restaurant.
  • Chief Carrizzo read a letter from Senator Jim Talent.
The Board accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed the Chief's Report.

2. Labor/Management Report:

  • Chief Carrizzo and President Minton would be attending the Labor/Management session on January 12-14. A one-day Labor/Management Seminar is scheduled for January 15 and it was suggested that the Board try to attend.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
