MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
August 27, 2002

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Station Three, 10811 NW 45 Highway, Parkville, Mo.

Nelson Hopper acted as Chairman of the meeting and called it to order at 7:10 p.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Hopper, Newburger, and Judd, via conference call. Also present was Chief Richard Carrizzo and Attorney Leslie Greene.

Minutes of the August 14, 2002, meeting, which had been previously e-mailed to the Directors were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed.

The Treasurer's report was presented and discussed.

The following Old Business was brought before the meeting:

1. Legal Issues. Waiting on the signed resignation letter from Kelly Wingert.

2. Apparatus update: Ladder 23 is back in service along with all apparatus.

The following New Business was brought to the meeting:

Chief's Report:

  • A thank you was received from Joe Farris.
  • Chief Carrizzo reported that Water District #1 was not going to drop our $10 minimum charge for the fire hydrant.
  • Chief Carrizzo reported on the Sept. 11 event at Station One, starting at 8:45 a.m.
  • Platte County will be hosting an event on Sept. 11 at Park Hill High School football field at 12:00 noon.
  • Chief Carrizzo reported that Southern Platte was 1 of 11 fire departments in Missouri that received a $500 Grant for Fire Prevention. The Board expressed their appreciation to Chief Callahan for his work on getting this.
  • Chief Carrizzo received word this week from WRS Architects that Station One was awarded 3rd Place for "Fire Station Style." This is a National Award and the station will be featured in Fire Chief Magazine in October.
Tax Rate Hearing: A motion was made, seconded, and passed unanimously that the 2002 General Levy for the Southern Platte Fire Protection District be set at the rate of 69.46 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to produce approximately $1,729,094.00 to fund the year 2003 budget.

A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously that the 2002 Debt Service Levy for the Southern Platte Fire Protection District be set at the rate of 12.18 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to produce approximately $303,201.00 to make the year 2003 payments on the bond indebtedness of the District.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
