MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
July 24, 2002

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Station Four, 8795 NW N Highway, Kansas City, Mo.

Nelson Hopper acted as Chairman of the meeting and called it to order at 9:05 a.m. Present at the meeting were Directors Hopper, Judd, and Newburger. Also present was Chief Richard Carrizzo and Dale Minton.

Minutes of the June 12, 2002, meeting, which had been previously e-mailed to the Directors, were accepted upon motion made, seconded, and passed.

The Treasurer's report was presented and discussed. The Directors seconded and passed upon motion made to reimburse the District for the purchase of Station Four property from the remaining "Series 1999 Construction Fund" after all outstanding checks have cleared, closing out the account.

The following Old Business was brought before the meeting:

1. Legal Issues. The Board authorized Chief Carrizzo to execute the legal documents for the resignation of Kelly Wingert upon motion made, seconded, and passed.

2. Apparatus update: Nothing to report.

3. Department Values/Strategic Plan: Chief Carrizzo reminded the Board of the daylong session with Dr. Gerling this Saturday.

4. Training Tower: Chief Carrizzo reported that the tower had been delivered and that the footings had been poured.

The following New Business was brought to the meeting:

Chief's Report:

  • Chief Carrizzo reported that the July 4th parade and BBQ was a success.
  • Chief Carrizzo reported on the reduced Water District #1 water bill's for Station Four.
  • Fire Officer I is being attended by 12 of our firefighters and 3 from NKCFD during part of this week and next.
  • Chief Carrizzo confirmed that the District's bank accounts do have collateral pledges for 120+%.
  • It was discussed on developing and Administrative Policy regarding legal expenses the District would incur for defense of employees.
  • Chief Carrizzo explained the passage of Bill 1107 and the County Commission's Alliance for the Sales Tax issue.
  • Monthly statistics were e-mailed to the Board for June. Chief Carrizzo also reported that the District only responded to nine firework violations between June 20 and July 10. The Fireworks Ordinance would need to be examined during the fall months.
  • Chief Carrizzo reported that he was named the Missouri Representative to the Missouri Valley Association of Fire Chiefs. Congratulations was given by the Board.
  • A Motion made, seconded and passed, the Board approved the hiring of FF Jason Pool.
  • Union Report: Dale Minton and Chief Carrizzo reviewed the Partnership Program course they attended along with the goals and action plan.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
