MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
COMMISSIONERS OF SOUTHERN PLATTE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
February 12, 2001

The regular monthly meeting of the Commissioners of Southern Platte Fire Protection District was held Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Station Three, 10811 NW 45 Highway, Parkville, Mo.

The meeting was called to order by Dean Cull 7:15 p.m. Present were Commissioners Newburger and Cull and Chief Richard Carrizzo. Commissioner Hopper arrived shortly after the meeting began and presided thereafter.

Minutes of the January meeting, which had been previously provided to the Commissioners, were accepted upon motion made, seconded and passed.

Mrs. Thomas was unable to present the January, 2001, treasurer's report as she had not yet received all of the January bank statements from Firstar and UMB Banks. She informed the Commissioners that she would forward the report to them as soon as she received the necessary information and was able to complete the report. She also informed the Commissioners that she was continuing to work with UMB in an effort to get the new bank accounts set up with that institution.

The following old business was presented to the meeting:

1. Legal -- Mrs. Stewart Greene was not present, and there was no legal report.

2. Ambulance -- Chief Carrizzo reported that response times went up but he had no concern as January's weather and streets were worse than usual.

3. Station One -- Chief Carrizzo reported that the roof leaks but that Bob DeGeorge Associates is working to fix it. There will be a task force to work on repairs. There will be a tour of the new station Feb. 24 for the Parkville Board of Alderman. Chief Carrizzo will get refreshments for the tour. An open house for the public is scheduled for March 31 from 8 to 11 a.m. A dedication ceremony will be held around 9-9:30 a.m. on that date. The event has been approved by the City of Parkville and Parkville's Merchants' Association will assist with advertising. There will also be a press release in connection with the open house.

4. Apparatus Update -- Chief Carrizzo reported that everything is up and running and has been for a full month. There has been some problem with the EMS bags on the new pumpers as they get wet. This problem will be addressed and corrected.

5. Station 4 -- The skeleton is up, plumbing is in, and concrete will be poured when the weather permits. Everything is on schedule with a July completion date still anticipated. The plans have been reviewed and some minor changes have been made.

6. Department Values -- Chief Carrizzo reported that the staff is checking on available dates and speakers for the team-building exercises.

The following new business was presented to the meeting:

In his report, Chief Carrizzo and the Commissioners discussed the following matters:

1. Park University's president, Don Breckon, is retiring and the new president will be the first female president in Park's history.

2. Recycling will be discontinued at Park University as of March.

3. The Commissioners stated that the Chief's Report received by them via e-mail looked quite good.

4. MAST is arriving at incidents requiring EMS treatment earlier than before; therefore the District is not providing as much emergency medical service.

5. Graden School was one of 19 schools in the nation and five in Missouri to receive the Blue Ribbon Award. This award recognizes top honors in all aspects of education.

6. The District has agreed to extended mutual aid with the Missouri Department of Forestry.

7. The FCC radio license has been renewed. Midwest Radio did the paperwork. All the District's equipment is licensed by the FCC. This is important should the District at some time not be affiliated with Platte County and its communications center.

8. A thank you note was received from Dale Minton thanking the District for the flowers sent at the unexpected death of his brother.

9. Richard Carrizzo has been appointed to be one of six members to sit on a Parkville TIF board relative to the Parkville shopping center. A meeting will be set for the near future. As TIF funds have to do with sales tax, the District should not be affected.

10. The District now has 40 volunteers. Six firefighters I's have been certified. One firefighter instructor has been certified and one is testing.

11. Chief Carrizzo met with Weatherby Lake. He reported that the Board at Weatherby continues to be pleased with the District's services.

12. Chief Carrizzo's year-end financial statement was given to the Commissioners.

After motion was made and seconded, the Commissioners accepted the report of Chief Carrizzo.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. upon motion made, seconded and passed.

Respectfully submitted,

Connie Thomas,
Secretary
