Our Personnel

We have four stations strategically located around the district. Each station houses a pumper, or engine company. It takes hoses, ladders, tools, a high-volume fire pump, and several hundred gallons of water to the fire. Its primary role is fire suppression, although all Southern Platte pumpers also carry emergency medical supplies and respond on medical 9-1-1 calls in their assigned area.

A ladder truck takes a variety of ground ladders, an aerial ladder, and other equipment to a structure fire. The telescoping arm of the ladder allows firefighters to perform rescues for victims in high windows, as well as project an elevated water stream down on a fire, an effect fire suppression strategy. The presence of a ladder truck in a district often improves the insurance rating there.

A tanker truck takes large quantities of water to fire scenes in rural areas of our district that don't have fire hydrants. Since much of our district is considered rural, our tanker is dispatched on all structure fires in those areas.

A brush truck is a four-wheel-drive pickup with a water tank and fire pump in its bed. It allow firefighters to directly attack grass, forest, and brush fires. Firefighters often drive right along next to a fire to extinguish it.

The district also owns a water-rescue boat to allow us to perform river rescue for victims in area lakes and on the section of the Missouri River than flows through our district.
