As he or she matures, the driver must decide when to quit driving. AARP suggests the driver consider some things to determine if a pattern is developing:

- An increasing number of near-misses or traffic violations
- Driving becomes physically exhausting
- More and more cars appearing "out of nowhere"
- Intersections become more stressful because so much is going on

Remember, the driver is not only responsible for his or her safety, but also the safety of passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. That's responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly.

AARP suggests evaluating travel alternatives -- such as walking, carpooling, taxis, agency or church shuttle buses, and public transportation -- long before the day comes to hang up the keys.
