Drivers have special safety concerns -- no matter their age or their mechanism. So says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Teenaged drivers, especially those with new licenses, have horrific accident rates. So to older drivers. But drivers in age groups between those should be just as cautious -- especially if they operate vehicles with anti-lock brakes, or if they carry children in their vehicles. And drivers should always keep their vehicles well maintainted and their tempers cool.

Motorcyclists are also prone to serious accidents involving death and severe injury. But with proper outfitting, that threat decreases substantially.

Non-motorized transportation isn't risk-free either, especially when it's done carelessly. Pedestrians need to exercise caution while walking along streets, inline skaters need to wear protection and skate within their abilities, and bicyclists need to remember the rules of the road.
