Bikes are popular, practical, fun modes of transportation. Keep a few precautions in mind to have miles of mobility.

- Wear a properly fitting helmet.
- Be sure the bike is the proper fit (your knee should be nearly straight when your leg is fully extended on the down peddle).
- Use extreme caution when crossing intersections.
- Maintain the bike in top condition.
- Ride single-file with traffic on the shoulder.
- Obey traffic signals -- you're a vehicle; act like one.
- Use hand signals.
- Ride defensively.
- Watch out for pedestrians.
- Adults, stretch before a long or rigorous ride.
- Kids, walk the bike across busy intersections.
- Use reflectors and lights when riding at night.
- Knobby mountain-bike tires are slick when riding on wet roads -- be extra careful.
